Guys at S60 on Symbian Customer Operations (SOSCO) took an off the shelf Atom based motherboard and ported to show S60’s potential. As Symbian itself puts it, they are not looking to launch an S60 based netbook or device right now but to flaunt Symbian’s powerful code base and also to see the interest amongst its business partners who are willing to invest on the development of a product solution.

The Nokia Beta Labs has churned out another useful product albeit it’s only for 5800 XpressMusic owners or any other phones running S60 v5. The Nokia Photo Browser enables a user to view the gallery in 3D (its interface is akin to PicLens). However, its not the 3D thing to boast about but two noteworthy features. First is the MagGlass magnifier that magnifies the area on touching a particular area and another is Face browsing. Double-click a face in the picture and users can browse the image face-to-face. Didn’t get it? Watch the video below.

A S60 v3.x version is coming soon.

Back in July, Nokia gave a major shock to Nokia users using Blackberry service when they announced to drop the development and support of Blackberry Connect software. It was not the best app but it was the only one for Nokia users to communicate with the BES servers. Now, Tom Furlong, head of Nokia Messaging has confirmed that Blackberry support will return as RIM is working to provide its Blackberry solution for the S60 devices.

“We are in the interim period of time when we have dropped support ourselves, and Blackberry is readying support for their service on Nokia devices.”

The exact availability is still a mystery but we pin our hopes for some time in the second quarter of this year.

Nokia has finally taken the touch screen interface seriously. They unveiled their first phone to run on their special Symbian S60 5th Edition OS and as the capture above suggests, more can be in the offing. An eagle eyed blogger caught this concept during the streaming of S60 5th Edition’s webcast. The phone looks from the Communicator Series and if all things go well, we can expect this baby to see soon. Nokia still eyeing iPhone? Maybe yes.
