Samsung has launched its 12 megapixel shooter, Pixon12 (M8910) in India. The phone boasts a rich set of features to handle the camera duties like the 28mm wide-angle lens, Xenon flash, image stabilizer, touch auto focus, smart auto feature that adjusts camera settings according to the environment, face/smile detection and ability to record videos at DVD resolution.

Amongst other features, it integrates a 3.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen display (10000:1 contrast, 480×800 pixels), HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.1, A-GPS, TV-out, DivX and XviD and microSD card slot.

The phone will appear in stores soon for Rs. 29,990.

Now we are getting somewhere as far as cameraphones are concerned. Though Samsung is already one step ahead of the competition, they are looking to make that two or three. As you can see, the picture above shows a Samsung phone with 12MP sensor, 3X optical zoom, Xenon flash and Power LED. Optical zoom was the most craved feature in a camera phone and Samsung is likely to be the first one to fulfill it. The only other feature confirmed is GPS but we may not be wrong to expect rest of the features at par with Pixon12.

So the question now remains is when will this phone make an official entry. Samsung is going to announce a new phone on June 15. Will this be it?

UPDATE: It has a 3.1-inch AMOLED screen with 10000:1 contrast ratio and 720×480 resolution, quad-band GSM, GPS, microSD card slot, 150MB internal memory, FM Radio with RDS, video recording at 30fps, fast image saving and a dedicated camera key.

Sony Ericsson was the first one to unveil a 12-megapixel phone but Samsung will be first one to ship it. The Pixon12 is the successor of Pixon and will hit the shops by the end of June in Europe. The phone camera features start with 28mm wide-angle lens, touch auto focus, smart auto that decides the ISO, exposure etc. on the basis of subject and the environment, Xenon Flash, digital zoom, face recognition, shake reduction and beauty shot.

Pixon12 also features HSUPA and Wi-Fi to share and upload the pictures on social networking sites via Sharepix.

There has been a sudden spurt in the existence of 8 megapixel phones in the market. Though companies have always resorted to the megapixel count as the ultimate benchmark for best camera phone, Samsung wants to change this view by launching their M8800 Pixon phone this week in Europe.

It has got almost every photographic feature a point-and-shoot camera brags of. Right from ISO 1600, auto focus, anti-shake to face/blink/smile detection, wide dynamic range and even geotagging.

The phone’s other noteworthy features include assisted GPS, large 3.2-inch screen with TouchWiz UI, accelerometer, DivX support, TV-Out, RDS FM Radio, DNSe, microSD card slot and a full 7.2Mbps support. Inclusion of Wi-Fi would be an added bonus but Sammy can be given a benefit of doubt as this phone is meant for photographers and not for avid net surfers.

The world is going to see a surge in the availability of 8-megapixel phones soon. Samsung without any hoopla launched M880 Pixon, their second 8-megapixel phone. This time Samsung decided to ride the phone on its native TouchWiz UI with lots of features to please the photography enthusiasts. The Pixon has a 3.2-inch touch screen with handwriting recognition, GPS, Accelerometer and even DivX playback but no Wi-Fi. The phone will start retailing from November 10 at price of 550 Euros ($880).
