Opera 9.7 Mobile beta is now available for Windows Mobile users. The new version brings in some nice improvements, most notably the Turbo (read how it works), Opera’s server-side solution to save bandwidth and also enable faster browsing. Other features include Presto 2.2 rendering engine and widgets support.

Opera will announce Opera Mobile 9.7 supporting Turbo compression technology at the CTIA expo next week. Turbo is Opera’s answer to slow internet speeds and also saves bandwidth by compressing the data up to 80%. In addition to Turbo, the new Opera Mobile 9.7 is equipped with Presto 2.2 rendering engine, 100% Acid 3 test, better standards support, hardware acceleration, OpenGL ES, Google Gears and compatible with web technologies like Ajax and Flash.

Opera has released a testing copy of its server side optimized Turbo enabled Opera browser. The browser, as we all know, works pretty much like Opera Mini which sends the requested website to Opera servers for optimization and brings back the compressed version of the website. I am currently trying it out and the Turbo feature does work but as Opera points out, it is not effective on a fast connection.
