<p>Nokia’s super snapper N86 has got a firmware update. The v30.009 is available via the Nokia Software Updater or over-the-air and though the full changelog is a mystery, Steve from <em>AAS</em> confirms the firmware features the latest Ovi Maps with free navigation, location sharing on Facebook and improvements in Nokia Messaging. </p>
<p>The phone supports UDP (User Data Preservation), which means you can update the phone without worrying to lose your apps, contacts, messages. </p>

<p>Being one of the last has some pros and cons. Cons include you cannot cash in on the latest fad but the pro is you can work on the flaws of the first ones to etch out a close to flawless product. Nokia is one of the last one to roll out an 8MP phone and mind you, the only one. We tested it for a considerable amount of time and this is what we’ve found.</p>

<p>Nokia’s 8MP super snapper N86 has got a firmware update today that bumps the software to v20.115. Notable features in this update include face detection, improved still image and video quality and bug fixes to the browser, Ovi Maps etc. The update is available over the air and is under 5MB (contrary to AAS’ 7.5MB size).</p>

Red-eye removal added (Nokia note: &#8220;this is image processing which removes the red-eye. You need to be in red-eye reduction flash mode for it to be operational. Other flash modes it is disabled as there is a small shot to shot impact due to the extra image processing.&#8221;)<br />
New focus point indication<br />
Improved Close-up focus. (Nokia note: &#8220;As a result you will find in most situations you can focus much closer than before. The new focus point indication will also help in confirming which part of your subject is used for critical focus checking&#8221;)</p>

Nokia USA has confirmed that they’ll be selling N86 in the “coming weeks”. The price set for an unlocked unit is $558 and will be available through online or in Nokia Flagship Stores.</p>
<p>In addition to the decent camera capabilities, the N86 comes with a 2.6-inch AMOLED screen, dual-way sliding support, 8GB internal memory, integrated kickstand, T-Out, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, N-gage support and much more.</p>

The association reckoned N86 as a “step forward in its specific segment” by including photography features like f/2.8 Zeiss wide-angle zoom lens, 8MP sensor, centre weighted exposure, 1/1000 sec. shutter speed, multimode flash and several scene modes with macro down to 10cm.</p>

<p>Nokia teased us with an <a href="http://www.techtickerblog.com/2009/02/15/nokia-to-announce-8-megapixel-phone-at-mwc/" target="_blank">image</a> couple of days back hinting about the possible 8MP phone. Well, the leaked PDF confirms it but the phone, now known as N86 just didn’t show up with other phones announced yesterday. The phone was showcased in Singapore that was pictured by a <a href="http://lesterchan.net/blog/2009/02/16/showcase-nokia-2009/" target="_blank">fellow blogger</a> along with other phones. The leaked specs also confirm it as not a revolutionary device but just a simple upgrade over N85. Full specs in the image below.</p>

<p>The images posted by the blogger have been redacted citing an embargo but will be up again at 4PM (Singapore time). That means the official announcement can be expected within a few hours.</p>
