Back in May LG had created the world’s thinnest LCD TV panel measuring 5.9mm. Now, they’re back again reclaiming the title from Samsung by showing off a panel that is more than 50 percent thinner than LG’s previous one, measuring at just 2.6mm. LG claims the slimness is an achievement from use of “slimming” technologies, edge-lit LED backlight and proprietary optical film technology.

Furthermore, the 42-inch slim LCD panel is able to display full HD content (1920×1080) at a refresh rate of 120Hz and weighs in under 4kgs.

LG will showcase the panel at the CES 2010 in January.

Sharp released DX Series of LCD TVs in Japan that boast to be the world’s first TV with integrated Blu-ray players. This means a user can insert a BD disc into the TV and enjoy the movie right away without the need to own an additional Blu-ray player for it. It sure is nifty but one thing that can damp your expectations is that this one’s HD ready, capable of playing at 1366×768 resolution. But if that’s not your concern, the TV could be a good buy when it comes out on June 20 in Black or White for 150,000 Yen (almost $1600).

In fact, the Super-Thin LCD for 32-inch displays is one of the slimmest, lightest and the greenest of the lot. The prototype will be exhibited at the CES which measures 7mm in thickness and weighs just 5kgs.

The green factor comes from the fact that this technology uses almost 50 percent less material resources, 10 percent fewer LCD module parts and is energy efficient proprietary driver that eliminates the need for mercury.

LG was touting its 24.8mm thick LCD TV to be the world’s slimmest until Samsung came in to spoil the party. But despite being thrown out of the slimmest race, this baby from LG packs decent features. The LH9500 LCD TV has a 55-inch screen size and boasts a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1, high quality playback at 1080p and 240Hz TrueMotion Drive technology.

The TV is also said to have DivX HD support and invisible speakers which will sit stealthily inside the chassis. Full specifications will be released at the CES expo.

Samsung, responsible for churning out ‘world’s first’ products, and will now claim to another first in the industry. They have announced that they will showcase their slimmest LED backlit HDTV at the CES which measures not more than 6.5mm – 7mm in thickness. That’s pretty slim considering LG was touting its almost 25mm TV as the slimmest. Other details are pretty scarce at the moment but the TVs are expected to come in sizes starting from 40” to 55”.

LG Display has scored the second ‘world’s first’ tag for its display which will be revealed at the CES. First it was the bright outdoor laptop display and now a LCD TV panel with a refresh rate of 480Hz. The Trumotion 480Hz panel is backed by the scanning backlight technology and 4ms response time that makes the screen to repeatedly turn on and off to reduce motion blur without sacrificing the picture quality. It also reduces energy consumption by adjusting the backlight brightness.

The planned launch is in the second half of next year but you can catch a glimpse of the panel at the CES next week.
