Sony Ericsson scheduled to launch a new phone tomorrow but seems their PR team jumped the gun early (now retracted) by unveiling Vivaz (formerly known as Kurara). The phone is powered by Symbian S60 and as a matter of fact, one of the powerful Symbian devices. The 12.5mm phone boasts 8MP camera sensor capable of taking HD video recording at 720p and features a dedicated video recorder button, continuous auto focus, face/smile recognition and more.

As for remaining specs, the phone has a 3.2-inch touchscreen display (640×360) with anti-scratch coating, 720MHz CPU, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, GPS, FM Radio, 3.5mm audio jack and accelerometer.

No word on the price but its expected in first quarter this year.

As expected, Mobile-review has posted the preview of Sony Ericsson’s promising Kurara touchscreen phone. However, as per Eldar from Mobile-review, the phone is just another average touchscreen with HD capability and its success will be dependent on its price. SE is pinning for 400 Euros but if SE wants to sell considerable units, Eldar reckons 300 Euros will be the sweet spot competing to Omnia HD and other offerings.

For the technical features, the phone is said to have a mediocre body made of plastic, average touchscreen response, a 3.5mm audio jack, 8MP camera decent enough to record videos at 720p resolution and below par battery. In short, Kurara which looked as a healthy competitor turns out to be a lackluster phone with price looking as the only saving point.

Sony Ericsson’s Kurara has sprung up again revealing more details of the promising device. Kurara is claimed to give Samsung’s Omnia HD run for its money with the integration of ARM’s Cortex-A8 processor, 256MB RAM and PowerVR graphics. It also supports 720p and claimed to be the fastest S60 around.

Eldar from Mobile-review has promised to bring a detailed preview, mostly by tomorrow.

More images of Kurara have slipped out showing the phone from different angles. New details are still under wraps but one thing that is found missing from the last leak is the HD inscription, which hints that the previous image might have been a nice photoshop effort or the phone which we’re currently looking is a very early prototype. Few features rumored are 3.5-inch AMOLED display, 8.1MP auto focus camera and runs Symbian S60 OS.

Xperia X10 is one of the few good looking phones SE has churned out in recent times and now Kurara seems to up the ante aesthetically as well as technically. Although the device’s design is somewhat influenced by X10, its internal features is what it differentiates from the rest of the SE clan.

Ostensibly, it is known as Satio’s little sister but it will pack a 3.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, 8.1MP auto focus camera with LED flash and HD video recording support.
