It’s no secret that the new iPhone OS features internet tethering but cellular operators are rather slow or unwilling to offer it right away. However, if you’re inner geek can’t wait any longer, there are two ways to quickly enable it.

Note: This is against your operator’s ToS and if they know, you flouted the ToS, they can charge you excessively over data charges or disconnect the connection.

First method is suggested by Aaron Krill that only works with AT&T by spoofing them to detect iPhone as another AT&T phone. It works by enabling IPCC update files and spoof AT&T’s site. More details on making it work, over here.

Next solution is rather simple and effectively works with a number of operators. Just point your iPhone browser to visit this site (http://help.benm.at/help.php) and download the appropriate profile according to your operator.

I checked for India and absurdly, the profile I found was for BPL Mobile and not for Airtel or Vodafone who are the exclusive iPhone operators. Anyways, if you use an unlocked iPhone running on BPL Mobile (Loop Mobile), you can try out the configuration by downloading this file.
