Dell Inspiron Mini Nickeleodon netbook

 

When it comes to netbooks, kids are spoilt for choices these days. In addition to the Disney range of Netpal netbooks, Dell has also announced an Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition. It’s a 10.1-incher Mini 10v netbook but comes with lots of customizations to suit the children.

Externally, the netbook comes in an eye-catchy Nickelodeon-inspired “slime” artwork or with designs of iCarly and SpongeBob SquarePants and internally, it has a unique personalized UI filled with Nick wallpapers, dedicated web portals for quicker access, a Just for You widget, password protection, anti-theft application and desktop icon linked to Whyville.net’s educational content.

The price is unknown for now but you can expect it to be around the regular Mini 10v price.

Netbooksnews has leaked a few slides that appear to be the roadmap of Dell’s Inspiron Mini series. According to it, users will soon be able to customize Inspiron Mini 10 with up to 2GB RAM, Ubuntu Linux, XP or Vista, 250GB HDD, 6-cell battery, 1.86GHz processor, WWAN.

Another Mini 10 model will be released in May with 1.6GHz N270 processor onboard, Ubuntu and 120/160GB HDD or up to 16GB SSD.

However, the interesting bit of info is here – mention of 11.6-inch and 12.1-inch Inspiron Mini models. The Inspiron Mini 11 is expected to launch sometime in Q2/Q3 and will be powered by a 1.6GHz CULV processor. On the other hand, the Inspiron Mini 12 will be powered by a Menlow proc, 1GB RAM and 40/80GB HDD.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12

 

Dell India has expanded its Inspiron Mini line. The Inspiron Mini 12 aims to give the user, portability of netbooks and also functionality of notebooks. The specs are still the same with a 12.1-inch display, Windows XP Home OS, choices of Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, webcam, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It will sell at a price of Rs. 31,000 (US$637).

Dell makes a second addition to the Inspiron Mini line with the introduction of Inspiron Mini 12. The device sits nicely between the classification of netbook and notebook which makes us want to say it as a netnotebook. Anyways, moving aside its category, Dell has tried to spec this netnote pretty decently.

It houses an Intel Atom processor Z520 (1.33GHz) or Z530 (1.6GHz), 1GB RAM, 60/80GB HDD, Bluetooth 2.1, webcam, Wi-Fi and a 3-cell battery all in a 24mm thick chassis. Windows Vista Basic is the default OS but users will be able to have a choice of running Ubuntu Linux or Windows XP by the end of the year. The estimated battery life is rated to last under 3 hours.

Dell has chosen Japan as the first destination for Inspiron Mini 12 but is expected to reach global markets by late November carrying a price tag of under $600.
