The Typhoon team has released the ChickHEN app that enables homebrew on older PSPs as well as the unhackable PSP-3000 and PSPs with TA-088v3 mobos. So what does this app exactly do? Well, it allows users to play classic games as well as run apps stored on the memory card of the PSP.

However, if you’re trying it out to play UMD backups from the memory card or PSX games, you’ll be sad to know that ChickHEN doesn’t support it.

ChickHEN as a Homebrew Enabler that allows the execution of homebrew via the PSP XMB. Running via a vulnerability in the lib TIFF the launcher takes advantage of the system by performing a kernel exploit and rebooting into a homebrew enabled enviroment. The ChickHEN remains active until the PSP is fully reset in which case official firmware loads from the flash. ChickHEN unlike other HEN’s doesn’t touch the flash0 and resides completely in memory. The h.bin supplied in this download consists of a loader and systemex, which is a inversed order of systemctrl and rebootex.

Last week was a bit unusual for some Nintendo WFC users. They were barred by Nintendo for accessing the WFC and encountered an error: 20102. According to Nintendo, this error means “some type of unauthorized activity has occured in an online feature of a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection game.”

The users were quick enough albeit irresponsibly to point that the ban was a result of the Homebrew channel installed. However, Marcan from Hackmii puts this rumor to rest as HBC works fine with the WFC. In fact, it’s the cheaters who are being banned from the online gameplay. Nintendo is apparently tracking users cheating online and in a fair sense to legit gamers, are banning users cheating in the online mode.

If you’ve encountered with the same error, there are a few tips to get back to the WFC.

1. Re-format your system. This will get you a new Wii ID and unbanned, but it will erase everything and you will not be able to use your old saves anymore. You have to start with new FCs.
2. Wait. It is assumed that this is a 1st-time warning from Nintendo, you will be unbanned soon.
3. Call Nintendo. I’ve heard of a lot of hackers calling Nintendo and discussing about unbanning them if they behave in the future.

Nintendo’s cat and mouse game continues with the piraters and the homebrew developers. If the software update was not enough to curb piracy, Nintendo has updated the Wii optical drives to make the modchips non functional. Modchips are used to bypass protection so as to enable the gamer to play different region games, backed up games and even install homebrew easily. Now with these drives integrated a new drive controller chip, modders will have to scrutinize to check if their Wiis fall under the same serial number range. This updated Wii was found in Australia with the serial number LAH1098xxxxx.

UPDATE: The creater of this app, Waninkoko has officially abandoned the project.

The homebrew scene on Wii is going at a brisk pace. A few days ago, a video floated about Wii Backup Loader which can play backed up Wii games without the need of modchips. And today someone has leaked it to open the pandora’s box of piracy. The authenticity of the loader is yet to be tested, but it seems like a real deal.

Instructions:

You patch the ISO with the .exe that came in the download.
Install the CIOS on your Wii
Install DVDX. Go to Advance and choose 249
Install Wii Loader
Burn the patched ISO with ImgBurn
Run the loader

Wii is a great console no doubt. But one of the most missed feature was the DVD playback. Nintendo had plans to release it but homebrew hackers have come out first as they achieved this breakthrough. The hack works by installing a file and simply following onscreen instructions which will give way to libdi (DVD Access library) on an unmodified Wii. After successfully accomplishing it, a Wii port of Mplayer will do the trick to play DVD movies.

Head over here to take the plunge into Wii DVD goodness.
