Mozilla has launched a new beta of its Firefox browser for mobile phones. The Firefox 4 beta for Maemo and Android is built on the same platform as for the desktop and brings a lot of similar features.

This release emphasizes on performance and responsiveness and features Electrolysis and Layers. Electrolysis makes the browser and web content run as a separate process, making the browser more responsive whereas Layer works to improve performance by efficiently handling graphic areas like scrolling, zooming etc.

Other features you’d find are Firefox Sync, add-ons, Awesome Bar and support for latest web technologies.

Sony’s PS3 console is about to get a new browser, if the report from PSInsider is to be believed. A source close to Sony hit them up claiming the Japanese multinational is in talks with Mozilla to port Firefox to the console. However, it’s not clear if both the companies have signed the dotted line or not.

This if true, will be a boon to PS3 users as no matter how well PS3 renders games, its integrated browser is a disappointment.

Opera behold as here comes Mozilla with their first ever mobile browser, Firefox aka Fennec. Currently in Alpha, the availability for the time being is restricted to just Nokia N810 devices. However, if you’re still interested to give it a spin, Mozilla has got an emulator ready for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux users.

The release is just a snippet of Fennec’s capabilities. Do other browser developers need to pull up their socks? Hell yeah!
