Intel has officially introduced its next-gen line of Atom processors for netbooks, nettops and AIOs. The platform known as Pine Trail is Intel’s first to integrate graphics and memory controllers onto the CPU die. With graphics, memory controller and CPU integrated together, Intel claims the new processors are smaller – thanks to 45nm manufacturing process – and enable improved performance and energy efficiency.

The single-core N450 chip is targeted at netbooks, has a clock speed of 1.66GHz with 20 percent performance gain and 60 percent reduction in footprint over the previous Atom platform. On the other hand, the desktop variants, D410 (single-core) and D510 (dual-core), run at the same 1.66GHz clock speed but are said to consume about 50 percent less power and 70 percent reduction in footprint.

Computers powered with Pine Trail Atom CPUs will be available from Jan 4.

Motherboard manufacturers have apparently spilled the beans on the future plans of Intel. According to them, Intel is planning to launch couple of Celeron, Atom chips and one Core i7 processor.

Celeron CPUs will be 45nm based from the E3000 Series running at 2.4GHz (E3200) and 2.5GHz (E3300) respectively. Celeron E3000 Series will mostly get a launch in the third quarter 2009.

As far as Atom is concerned, two new chips will be outed – Dual-core Atom D510 will make its presence felt in the last quarter of this year while a single-core D410 in the first quarter of 2010. No other details like clock speed were revealed.

Lastly, Core i7 960 CPU will be due in the last quarter running at a clock speed 3.2GHz.
