Intel’s powerful Core processors are now available for ultrathin laptops. The range includes the Core i7, Core i5 and Core i3 CPUs with Hyper-boost (Core i7 and Core i5) that promise to give the much needed performance without compromising on the battery life. These new processors are based on 32nm process that make the CPUs more than 32 percent smaller, deliver more than 32 percent performance and reduce power consumption by 15 percent.

Intel has confirmed that more than 40 designs are expected from various notebook manufacturers and the first one will be seen in June, presumably at the Computex.

Motherboard manufacturers have apparently spilled the beans on the future plans of Intel. According to them, Intel is planning to launch couple of Celeron, Atom chips and one Core i7 processor.

Celeron CPUs will be 45nm based from the E3000 Series running at 2.4GHz (E3200) and 2.5GHz (E3300) respectively. Celeron E3000 Series will mostly get a launch in the third quarter 2009.

As far as Atom is concerned, two new chips will be outed – Dual-core Atom D510 will make its presence felt in the last quarter of this year while a single-core D410 in the first quarter of 2010. No other details like clock speed were revealed.

Lastly, Core i7 960 CPU will be due in the last quarter running at a clock speed 3.2GHz.

The whole world is yet to embrace Core i7 processors but that hasn’t kept Intel down as they have added couple more to the i7 matrix. It’s the 975 Extreme Edition taking the world’s fastest processor crown and 950 that sits in between the already available mid-range 940 and 965. The Core i7 950 runs at a clock speed of 3.06 GHz while 975 beats 960 by 133MHz, precisely running at a clock speed of 3.33GHz.

Hot Hardware took the Core i7 975 to a ride and found that the stock clock speed bump is minimal but the beast shows its true colors when overclocked. It jumped to 4.1GHz without sweating, keeping temperature under 50C degrees under full load.

Intel will sell the Core i7 975 Extreme at a hefty $999 while Core i7 950 at around $550.

Intel announced that their next generation processors, Core i7 (Nehalem) will be released on 17th of this month. Intel touts Core i7 as the fastest processor on the planet and it is rightly so. Who would have thought Core i7’s entry-level processor will beat Intel’s high-end Core 2 Quad processor hands down?

Intel also confirmed the prices of the processors. Entry-level 2.66GHz Core i7 will cost $284, 2.93GHz Core i7 940 will go for $562 and 3.20GHz Core i7 Extreme 965 for $999. However, these prices are based on quantities of 1000 so we can expect the retail prices to be little higher.
