Razer is best known for its portfolio of gaming accessories so anything else coming out from their side is surprising. At the ongoing CES, they’re showing off their Switchblade PC concept design, which is a small PC but concentrates on gaming.

The concept is based on Intel’s Atom processor running Windows 7. The Switchblade functions like a normal PC (albeit with a very small screen) but its keys can be remapped on-the-fly to suit the game’s requirements. The prototype also features a mini HDMI port, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.

Concepts are cool. They show us what we can expect from our future gadgets but in retrospect most of them never turn into a real product. But this concept of Mozilla Seabird is what I want to get real. It’s an open web mobile that has been created after taking feedback from the Mozilla community.

The phone looks drop dead gorgeous and features dual pico projectors that provide different functionality like one projecting the phone’s content while other displaying the keyboard. Other than that, the phone has a 8MP camera, integrated Bluetooth dongle that helps to pan/zoom content on the phone in a 3D environment, 3.5mm headphone jack, mini-USB and wireless charging.

Concepts seldom turn into real products and this will most likely be the case with MSI’s new laptop concept. Known as Sketchbook, it was shown off in Amsterdam and is created with designers in mind, who do a lot of drawing. The Sketchbook looks like a normal laptop but the distinctiveness is its rotating base that can be turned to reveal its keyboard or a large trackpad for drawing.

MSI is quiet on if it will ever turn into a real product but they were showing a non-working prototype at the event. Check out a bunch of pictures over here.

The Courier Tablet concept seemed one of the coolest products that could have come out of Microsoft’s stable but now Gizmodo is reporting that the project has been canceled. The reason behind the move is not known but MS’ Corporate VP of Communications Frank Shaw did acknowledge the demise of the yet-to-be-commercialized product.

“At any given time, we’re looking at new ideas, investigating, testing, incubating them. It’s in our DNA to develop new form factors and natural user interfaces to foster productivity and creativity. The Courier project is an example of this type of effort. It will be evaluated for use in future offerings, but we have no plans to build such a device at this time.”

According to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, Courier was in the incubating stage but yet to hit the production pipeline.

However, the good thing here is though the project is dead, Microsoft will look to integrate technologies from the Courier into other product offerings. Perhaps a Windows 7 or Windows Phone 7 tablet will take advantage of this.

In addition to the Jellow AIO concept, the other concept that attracted our attention was MSI’s dual-screen notebooks. MSI had created two dual-screen devices – one 10- and another 7-incher – both functioning as working prototypes and running Windows 7. The rep was reluctant to say the expected release but confirmed it as scheduled for 2010. The models were very early prototypes and really buggy. At one instance, the MSI rep was pressing on the lower screen but the device detected it as a press on the upper screen.

The specs according to Laptop is that the 10-inch version has a capacitive version, Intel Atom processor and SSD. No word on the 7-inch version though.

Concepts are way cooler and smarter than actual products because it shows what it holds for the future. Similarly, Asus is showing off its Waveface concept behind the protected glass giving us a glimpse of future, provided Asus ever releases one. The Waveface is a series consisting of a wearable phone, a tablet PC and a large display.

Starting with Waveface Ultra, it’s a wearable phone that pushes relevant data automatically over the air. It will support gesture controls and can also be straightened so as to allow the information to be viewed in full screen.

The Waveface Light is a tablet notebook that works like a normal notebook but can be transformed into a big screen tablet. The Asus rep said the keyboard is the screen that rises up on folding up the notebook.

Finally, the Waveface Casa is a large widescreen display that sits in your living room, being able to surf the internet as well as allow users to watch television.

MSI is showing off an all-in-one PC concept at the CES. Dubbed as Jellow Family Computer, the AIO takes a different approach by integrating a storage space for keyboard. The PC display slides upwards to reveal and use the keyboard. The concept had a transparent keyboard hidden beneath it but we’re unsure if it can store keyboards other than provided by MSI. The Jellow Computer features a slim design, 23-inch HD LED display and a Jellow Mouse that integrates remote and phone control functionalities.

Kyle Buckner is the mastermind of this creation which is a ¾ scale model of Macbook made out of wood. It features working hinges, hand drawn Dock, keyboard, trackpad and reveals a wonderfully done film strip when the PULL tab is pulled.

At the Euroluce International Lighting Fair in Milan, Philips is showing world’s first OLED lighting concepts that involves human interaction. The lights are suited for both professional as well as consumer use and feature ultra flat shape and soft light effects.

Philips has created different OLED lighting concepts like standing, wall-mounted, desk-top or ceiling luminaires that use different types of interaction. The ceiling lighting, for instance, can be brightened or dimmed with a wave of the hand. Another concept shows an OLED wall that reacts to passers-by and creates a mirrored reflection of the shadows amid the lit wall making it like a glowing mirror.

As of now, the commercial viability looks distant but interested consumers can catch it in action at Lirio by Philips booth, Hall 14 stand E54.
