Another product revealed at the CES was Seagate’s FreeAgent Theater HD Media player that allows to play files directly from the external USB drive. The idea is pretty simple – just pop in a Seagate FreeAgent drive or any other USB external drive into the unit and play multimedia files on TV. It also has multi-format support which includes video formats like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX and supports HD content up to 1080i. Music on the other hand will play with ease if the files are MP3, WMA, WAV or OGG. It also integrates 5.1 channel surround sound and connects to any TV supporting composite, S-Video or component.

The media player will start retailing from March at a price of $130. Users can also buy the unit with a 250GB HDD combo for $230 or 500GB combo for $300.

Apart from bombarding the CES expo with Eee line of products Asus also showed a computing concept. We name this shared computing concept as ‘Eee Share’ which allows two users to share one notebook computer with the included two thin displays as well as two keyboards. Very futuristic but don’t pin your hopes on this one. A concept, most of the times, remains a concept.

Intel and its production partners of Classmate PC revealed the convertible tablet at the CES. Not much has changed from last time – there’s a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD, Windows XP, 180-degree swiveling screen, accelerometer and a stylus. Since it is meant for children, Intel has made the netbook rugged to withstand accidental bumps and drops and also has a water resistant keyboard. Another feature it boasts is the palm rejection feature which helps the user to write even while the palm rests on the screen.

It is being reported that this netvertible goes for $550 but cheaper in case of bulk orders.

“Here comes iPhone’s big brother: a 32″ inch (or larger) iTable with Multi-Touch,“ reads the press release. This ‘larger than life’ iPhone sans cellular capabilities is the creation of PQ Labs which is just an LCD TV laden with PQ Labs’ Multi-Touch overlay screen and the proprietary software. They are even demonstrating their device to show its true potential.

The company says that interested buyers will be able to take this off the shelves in summer 2009 but for now, they are offering to convert the existing LCD screen with their overlaying Multi-Touch G2 touch screen for a few thousand dollars.

Asus promised to show the netvertibles at the CES and here they are with the T91 and T101H. The T91 has an 8.9-inch swiveling touchscreen display to transform itself to a tablet netbook. Processing duties are handled by Intel’s Atom Z520 processor, with presumably a gig of RAM and host of other features like GPS, TV Tuner, couple of USB ports and a card reader. T91 will run Windows XP Home edition as the operating system and will be loaded with Asus’ touchscreen software. Coming in March for around $700.

The bigger T101H sports a 10.1-inch touchscreen display and is expected to be cheaper than T91. The tablet will feature an old Atom N270 processor with other usual netbook features, giving away GPS and TV Tuner. It will sell for around $500 when it comes in March.

Going by Dell’s track record of churning out big, ugly looking laptops this newly announced laptop is going to amaze you – it’s slim, sexy and beautiful. This is the first offering which will be a part of Dell’s luxurious Adamo lineup to take on the…Macbook Air. The release didn’t have any mention of the specifications but going by the pictures it looks like a 13-incher with 3 USB ports, eSATA, LAN, Windows Vista and color options of either black or white. Hoping that Dell prices this thing right, and if they do, they surely have a winner on their hands.
