Nokia has been showing off the Lumia 800 here in India but kept the lower-end Lumia 710 off our hands. Luckily for us, Nokia showcased the Lumia 710 as well as its newly announced Lumia 900 at CES where we managed to check out both these devices.

Nokia wanted to give the rich Windows Phone experience at an affordable price with Lumia 710 and it literally shows. If the fingerprint-prone display, plastic keys are not an issue, Lumia 710 won’t disappoint you. Apart from the choice of colors, Lumia 710 runs Windows 7.5 Mango OS, 1.4GHz CPU, 3.7-inch WVGA LCD display, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5MP camera and Nokia exclusive apps like Nokia Drive and Music.

Nokia Lumia 900 on the other hand, is a different story. It’s bigger than Lumia 800, fast and gorgeous. It will first arrive in United States on AT&T and supports 4G LTE network that gives speed of up to 50Mbps. As for other features, it has a 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack WVGA display, 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor, 8MP Carl Zeiss camera with dual LED flash and 720p HD video recording, 1MP front-facing camera and Nokia exclusive apps.

Take a gander in the gallery below.

LG Spectrum is now available on Verizon and we managed to get our paws on the device for a limited amount of time at the CES last week. Spectrum is a big and a powerful device that features a 4.5-inch HD IPS display and Qualcomm 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

The phone supports Verizon’s 4G LTE connectivity, which we couldn’t put to a real test as apps on the demo unit were password protected. Moreover, it has an 8MP autofocus camera, full HD video recording and playback, Dolby Digital Plus, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microSD card slot and 1830mAh battery.

Sony showed off this cool concept at the CES last week. Dubbed as Hybrid concept, the device actually brings two form factors together – tablet and a notebook. Though the concept is not new but the fact that Sony has developed it and may go on sale in the near future makes it exciting.

The device as you can see in the images, is pretty sleek, has a sliding interface along with a touchscreen display, speakers behind the screen and surprisingly, no touchpad! Apparently, Sony thinks touchpad’s duty will be taken over by the included stylus pen.

Sony didn’t confirm if it will ever turn into a real product but going by the quality of the concept, the device looks completely doable.

While we’ve seen many companies trying to capitalize on mobile devices to push their gaming accessories, a French startup known as ePawn is working on something unique called as ePawn Arena. The ePawn Arena brings the game on your iOS or an Android device to a larger screen with a touch and motion-tracking experience.

Apt for board games, ePawn integrates its technology in a normal 26-inch display that makes the display detect touch as well as track game pieces with the help of embedded tags. The tags are integrated in the game pieces, which ePawn will provide or sell them separately to tag any user’s game pieces.

As a proof of concept, ePawn showed us couple of games – Air Hockey and other one was a turn-based war game and the touch responsiveness along with motion tracking was pretty good.

ePawn plans to release the SDK soon for game developers to take advantage of ePawn Arena.

ePawn Arena is expected to launch in the second half of this year for a price of around $300-$400.

App Stores are mainly associated with mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. But the store concept is picking up steam with televisions too, mainly due to the fact of the new Smart TVs.

Although TV companies have dedicated App Stores for their Smart TVs, Norway-based Opera Inc. have also announced their version of App Store for televisions.

Dubbed as the Opera TV Store, the store is actually based off a browser with all apps using HTML5 web standard. Theoretically, all TVs supporting the latest web standard will be able to use the store but that will not be the case as Opera plans to lock out on unauthorized devices.

The apps on the Opera TV Store will be installed on the cloud but Opera has tried to emulate the experience similar to installing on a TV, which in my opinion is quite nice. And for those who’re wondering what will happen to the apps if a user turns off or logs out from the service – the apps will stay since the store and apps are tied to TV’s unique ID.

As of now, all I could find was free apps on the store but Opera plans to add paid apps in the near future.

The Opera TV Store will be released this year with a “global TV maker.”

Check out a brief rundown of the TV Store below.

Sony announced it is expanding its line of SD cards with a new flagship series designed for ultra-high speed interface (UHS-I) compatibility, giving DSLR users superb speed and high performance. The new cards are available in capacities of 32GB (SF-32UX), 16GB (SF-16UX) and 8GB (SF-8UX).

The new cards offer significantly higher transfer speeds up to 94MB/s (read) and 45MB/s (write, for SF-8UX, write speed is 22MB/s), ideal for the burst shooting and HD video modes of today’s DSLR cameras and HD camcorders (based on Sony tests and dependent on host hardware) . They can also realize rapid data rates when transferring content – even large, high-resolution HD files – back to their PCs. And when used with non-UHS-I supported hardware, the new Sony cards will still maintain Class 10 speed.

The Sony UHS-I series of cards will be available in March, starting at prices of USD 44.99.

RIM announced a new software update for BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 at the CES 2012 and we managed to get our hands on it. The PlayBook OS 2.0 is a significant update that takes the maiden BlackBerry tablet to a whole new level.

The most missed feature in the PlayBook is now available – native email. Additionally, there’s an unified inbox, multi-tasking within email, deep social integration of contacts, improved BlackBerry Bridge that allows to use BlackBerry device’s keyboard and mouse, control it and even open files and videos directly from the phone to the PlayBook.

On the business front, the new OS will integrate an improved version of Documents to Go office suite, increased control of corporate data, more apps and a video store (not shown on the video).

RIM will release the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 in February 2012.

JVC Professional Products Company announced the GYHMQ10, the world’s first handheld 4K camcorder, which captures, records, and plays video images at four times the resolution of high definition television. Powered by JVC’s Falconbrid large-scale integration (LSI) chip for high-speed signal processing and a 1/2-inch CMOS imager with 8.3 million active pixels, it delivers real-time 3840×2160 footage at 24p, 50p, or 60p.

JVC’s exclusive Falconbrid LSI processing takes raw image data from the camera’s CMOS device and dematrixes (deBayers) it in real time. Unlike many high end 4K cameras, the GY-HMQ10 is able to output 4K images to a monitor or projection system in real time with virtually no latency. This capability opens up applications in cinematography, medical microscopy, telepresence, specialized observation/surveillance, and live wide-view event coverage.

Using MPEG-4 technology and a variable bit rate H.264 codec operating at up to 144 Mbps, the GY-HMQ10 records up to two hours of 4K video to economical SDHC or SDXC memory cards.

The GY-HMQ10 also captures and records 1080i or 1080/60p full HD, with extraordinary detail provided by its 8.3 megapixel imager and superior lens. Other features include JVC’s patented Focus Assist, as well as manual and auto control of focus, iris, gain, shutter, gamma, color matrix, and white balance. Plus, the camera has the unusual capability of live 4K output via four HDMI terminals.

Good things come at a price, and so does the GY-HMQ10. It will retail at USD 4,995 with availability in March this year.
