The new image acquired by folks over at CrackBerry confirms RIM has shelved the angular edges and will instead adopt a “phonified” version of BlackBerry PlayBook.

It will run BlackBerry 10 OS and will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor (could be TI OMAP5 or Qualcomm), 8MP camera and more.

The site claims in addition to London, RIM is also preparing two other devices codenamed Laguna and Lisbon for US market to cater to operators like AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

RIM announced a new software update for BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 at the CES 2012 and we managed to get our hands on it. The PlayBook OS 2.0 is a significant update that takes the maiden BlackBerry tablet to a whole new level.

The most missed feature in the PlayBook is now available – native email. Additionally, there’s an unified inbox, multi-tasking within email, deep social integration of contacts, improved BlackBerry Bridge that allows to use BlackBerry device’s keyboard and mouse, control it and even open files and videos directly from the phone to the PlayBook.

On the business front, the new OS will integrate an improved version of Documents to Go office suite, increased control of corporate data, more apps and a video store (not shown on the video).

RIM will release the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 in February 2012.

Research in Motion today announced BlackBerry 10 OS at the Developer Conference in Singapore. Now before you get confused, the BlackBerry 10 OS is the same as previously announced BBX but has dropped the short and marketable moniker due to legal issues.

BASIS International holds the BBX trademark and was granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Research in Motion (RIM) to not use the BBX name.

Whatever the name, the OS will boast the same integration you’d expect in BBX.

RIM has off late bombarded the smartphone market with a slew of BlackBerry devices. The good thing with the new launches is that all devices boast BlackBerry OS 7. The Blackberry Torch 9860 is also one of them but is definitely different from the conventional Blackberry phones.

For a layman it’s difficult to identify the models of Blackberry from the looks as almost all the phones have a similar form factor and the design. However, with the Torch 9860, RIM is trying to satisfy savvy buyer who wants to flaunt the device with the likes of Androids and iPhones.

RIM’s Alec Saunders divulged some important info about the upcoming BBX platform, which is a crossover platform to bridge the existing BlackBerry features with QNX OS. Saunders says BBX phones will break away from the looks of its high-end Bold phones but will retain all BlackBerry’s core features.

Apart from the looks, the most important thing revealed by Saunders is the display, which will boast a resolution of 1024×600 pixels with 16:9 aspect ratio, similar to that of BlackBerry PlayBook. From a PlayBook developers’ standpoint, this is good news because the apps developed for PlayBook will be compatible with BBX.

The first BBX smartphone is rumored to be BlackBerry Colt expected in the first quarter of next year.
