Indian Department of Telecommunications limits SMS in J&K

UPDATE: Now Home Ministry asks DoT to withdraw the ban.
Indian telecom ministry today issued a directive to 12 operators restricting all incoming and outcoming SMSes in Jammu & Kashmir. The directive says the decision has been taken in the “interest of the national security” and will be effective from tonight.
- DoT has imposed a lot of restrictions which are as follows:
- No SMS packs for J&K subscribers
- SMS sent from outside J&K are barred
- Pre-paid users are eligible to send only 10 SMS per day whereas post-paid subscribers are not allowed altogether. The SMS limit applies to only messages sent within J&K
- Telemarketers are stripped off the bulk SMS and voice-call facility
The restrictions won’t be lifted until cellular operators provide necessary compliance details to Telecom Enforcement, Resource & Monitoring (TERM) Cell of J&K by April 19.
