Sony has announced a new Blu-ray player that is capable to display HD 3D content. The BDP-S470 standalone player is 3D ready, which means it will be able to show Blu-ray 3D content after a firmware update due this summer.

For an affordable price tag of $200, the player also features DVD upscaling to 1080p, Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD master audio decoding and BD Remote app support that allows an iPhone or iPod touch to control the player.

The player also supports Wi-Fi via an additional USB dongle that could give users access to Netflix streaming, YouTube and many other services through Bravia Internet Video platform and BD-Live.

The BDP-S470 will be available from February.
