We already know HTC is working on v2.1 update for Hero but if you can’t wait to go the official route, good folks at XDADevelopers have managed to get 2.1 ROM, which is now available for download. It’s a customized pre-release ROM so obviously you won’t find few things you’ll find in the official version but nonetheless, you’ll have the 2.1 update with Sense UI.
It’s available at the link below but don’t delve into if you’re uncomfortable flashing the device and its radios. Any wrong move could brick your phone.
