Sony will be releasing WiMAX-enabled notebooks in the Indian market soon. The full details are still awaited but Sony says they’ll roll out only after the Government has allotted the requisite spectrum.

“Once the 3G auctions takes place and private players come into the space, we will come out with our products, which will have WiMAX chips embedded into them. These will be prices between Rs 35,000 to RS 65,000,” Sachin Thapar, Division Head, IT, Gaming and Mobile Business at Sony India said.

Sony also unveiled its aggressive plan to capture the Indian notebook market. By March 2011, Sony expects to snag about 20 percent of market share that converts up to 200,000 units a year.

Sony recently launched the slim and light VAIO X.
