Samsung will be bringing 640GB notebook drives in mid-September but WD today has commenced shipping its 9.5mm 2.5-inch 640GB hard drives. The WD Scorpio Blue 640GB is a dual platter drive that claims to consume 30 percent less power than previous Scorpio Blue drives and enhance performance to achieve extended battery life and quiet operation. The WD 640GB HDD supports SATA interface with a rotational speed of 5400RPM and 8MB cache. It also features WhisperDrive, ShockGuard and Intelliseek.

WD will sell these drives for $149 with a three year limited warranty.
