Microsoft takes a U-turn, will ship Win 7 with IE in EU

After deciding to ship IE less Windows 7 SKUs in Europe, Microsoft has backtracked and will ship Windows 7 with Internet Explorer browser. However, the shipped SKUs will carry a ballot option that will allow users to download any internet browser of their choice. The ballot will be displayed the first time a user connects to the internet and will be able to download his preferred web browser.
Earlier, MS was fined heavily because of using its monopolistic position to bundle IE with Windows and thus preventing fair competition to other web browsers. With the ballot system in place, it’s a win-win situation for everyone. EU Commission doesn’t mind it; there’s a hope for IE being installed; and users get different browser options.
