iPhone 3GS jailbreak available; It’s not sn0w, it’s ra1n

UPDATE 2: Now Mac version as well as RC2a version for Windows is available. Go to the link below.
UPDATE: GeoHot updated the Purplera1n jailbreak with support of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and 64-bit support. The RC2 version also improves payload injection.
We have got the first iPhone 3GS jailbreaking tool dubbed as purplera1n. As you would have got the hint by looking at the tool’s name, this solution is not created by the iPhone Dev team but rather by George Hotz aka GeoHot. Apparently, pissed off by the team’s decision to wait for OS 3.1 made GeoHot release this tool. Any which ways, it’s a major win for 3GSers who have been waiting to do it.
Windows for now (Mac coming soon), purplera1n can help jailbreak the iPhone 3GS in few simple ways.
- Go to purplera1n.com
- Download the tool
- Run the latest iTunes
- Connect the iPhone
- Run the jailbreak tool by clicking ‘Make it ra1n’
- Phone boots (according to some commenters, could take time) and will install Freeze
- Run it and follow the instructions
