Acer has been pretty vocal about its smartphones plans. We knew they were planning phones on Android but now they officially acknowledged it by giving the expected release time frame. They’ll be launching their first Android phone in the last quarter of this year. Though other intrinsic details are kept under the wraps, we expect the phone will be based on Android 2.0 (Donut) OS.

They are also planning to join the Open Handset Alliance that promotes the Android OS.
