The actual decision will not be revealed until Wednesday but Reuters’ sources confirm that Intel will have to face a fine for being anti-competitive by paying computer makers to postpone or cancel the launch of products coming with an AMD chip.

According to the report, Intel is said to commit two violations – first, to offer rebates to computer makers for restricting or eliminating the use of AMD chips and second, provide additional incentives to retailers who sell only Intel based computers.

The fine to be levied is not known but the European Commission (EC) is looking to charge the chipmaker for wrongdoings for the last eight years.

The EC had charged Microsoft a fine of 497 million Euros in 2004, giving an indication that EC won’t let Intel go off easily.
