Opera Turbo

Taking its expertise of server-side optimization (which Opera Mini currently uses), the Norwegian browser company has announced of a new server-side solution dubbed as Opera Turbo. Turbo enabled browsers work the same way as Opera Mini but a major difference is that it offers full support for web technologies like Javascript, Ajax and Flash.

The functioning is pretty simple. A user requests a webpage on a Turbo-enabled browser. Browser sends the request to the Opera Turbo Server which compresses the website data and sends back to the user’s device instantly. Opera claims, this technology helps to compress data by up to 80 percent that effectively helps to reduce bandwidth consumption.

Opera will be showcasing the Turbo technology exclusively at the MWC next week to B2B customers on Opera Desktop, Opera Mobile and Opera Devices SDK.
