Here’s the story so far – In a results call a few days back, interim CEO Tim Cook was asked if Pre infringes any of the Apple’s patents and if it does, will Apple taken any legal question. Cook’s answer was pretty clear – “Apple takes Intellectual Property Rights very seriously and would aggressively defend them”. He did not mention any companies but it was clear indication that Apple was pointing at Palm for the use of Multi-touch gestures in Pre.

Now a twist to the tale is a statement from Palm. Palm’s spokesperson Lynn Fox told AllthingsD that Pre does not infringe any patents and if someone tries to sue them they have the necessary tools to defend themselves.

We don’t know where this is heading but one thing’s for sure; Apple is intimidated by Pre. Media, analysts and bloggers have been lauding the device as a worthy competitor to the iPhone.
