LG Viewty

We all know the success of Viewty phone from LG in Europe. It has already sold 310,000 units since its launch. To cash in on the same success, LG will leave no stones unturned to market the phone when it comes to India in January 2008. According to Anil Arora, Business Group Head-GSM, LG Electronics India Ltd (LGEIL), they will be spending Rs. 145 Crores ($36 million) alone to market the Viewty handset. Along with that another $36 million would be pumped in to market another 10 premium range handsets.

Viewty will sell in India for Rs. 21,900 ($556) and for the uninitiated it has a 3-inch touch sensitive display, 5 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, HSDPA and whole lot of multimedia functions.

India is one of the fastest growing telecom markets. In November 2007, it added 8.32 million subscribers taking the total figure 225.46 million in the wireless segment. Now it makes sense to LG and also to every other handset maker to pitch their phones because the trend in the wireless segment is positive and is expected to be same in the coming months also.
