Samsung announced a new series of HDDs which offer more reliability, speed and less noise. It is the SpinPoint S166 hard drives are able to cut noise by 15% when compared to other hard drives with no compromise on the reading and writing ability. The S166 drives has a speed of 7200 RPM with 8MB of buffer and runs on SATA or PATA interface. At present, only 80GB and 160GB storage capacities will be available and integrates technologies like fly-height control for better reading and writing, optimized actuator assembly for reliability of disk’s mechanical functions and system on chip (SoC) for better performance and power consumption.
