Nintendo has officially announced that its unreleased console which was codenamed as Revolution will now be called as Wii. Wii is pronounced as We. It surely is a wiiird name.

Introducing … Wii.

As in “we.”

While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.

And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.

Because, it’s really not about you or me.

It’s about Wii.

And together, Wii will change everything.

Nintendo Revolution Wii’s technical details are still unknown but it is expected to be powered by an IBM processor and a 512MB graphics card from ATi.

  1. [...] Nintendo changed the much accepted name Revolution to Wii. And now according to the latest grapevine, Nintendo will be changing Wii to another name. However, Nintendo denied this rumors but Mike from Marketing Department has a different story to tell. We have received over 200,000 e-mails with complaints about the Wii, and the console name has been commonly associated with urine. We have been the target of many jokes, and we strongly believe that it’s a bad thing for the company’s reputation. [...]

  2. I know it’s an old post guys, but the Wii has really taken off. I guess they done all their market research before they picked the name.
